Competition Dance Policy

Competition Dance Team

For students who wish to experience dance at a more time intensive and competitive level, RDP offers a highly acclaimed award winning competition team.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the RDP Competition Team, please inquire upon registration for additional information and audition dates. We have five competition levels on our competition team. All will be required to attend specific classes, extra rehearsals as needed, and compete in various dance and talent competitions on the weekends.

Participation and Placement

Students audition for placement on the team, or in some cases they are invited to participate when outstanding skills are demonstrated in recreational classes.

Participation on the competition team is voluntary, however once a student joins, 100% commitment to the team is expected from all team members. Team members are responsible for attending all classes and any additional practices that are called on weekends or holidays during the competition season which runs September to July.

Competition team members are divided into troops and placed where instructors feel they will perform to their best abilities. Dancers are also invited to participate in extra dances according to skill level. These dances are practiced on weekends, and participation in them is optional.

Adjudicated Competitions

Competition dances are learned early in the year and perfected from August to December. RDP typically competes in 5 regional adjudicated competitions in the winter and spring, and one national adjudicated competition during the summer.

Regional competitions are usually local (within a 2 hour driving distance), whereas the national competition can be in various locations around the country. Parental input is given to decide the location of national competitions. All competitions require additional costs to the students.

Costumes, Hair and Makeup

Competition costumes are fitted and received late in the fall or early winter, and usually arrive around December. Payment for costumes is required when they are ordered. It is best not to order dance shoes until costumes are chosen, color and style of shoes may vary for competition dances.

Make up and hair styles are very specific for competition dancers. A detailed list is provided early in the dance year.

All questions concerning competition should be directed to Kadi Wenger or Jamie Rohanna.
