Class Policy
Available Classes and Placement
The RDP teaching team specializes in a wide scope of dance styles including early dance education, ballet, pointe, conditioning, technique, contemporary, lyrical, tap, jazz, hip hop, acrobatics, improvisation, musical theater and voice. Our goal is to place each student in classes where they will feel most comfortable facing challenges which will ultimately help them learn and improve. If a student finds himself/herself in a class that is either too advanced or too elementary, she/he will be moved to the appropriate level at the teacher's discretion.
Appropriate Attire
*Upon entering the studio ALL RDP students must have hair in pigtails, ponytail, braids or bun.
- Ballet: Students are required to wear a solid color leotard, ballet pink tights, pink ballet/pointe shoes, and hair pulled back neatly in a bun. Ballet is the most structured dance class and is the basis for all other forms of dance. The neatness in the ballet dress code sets a precedent for neatness in form and attitude.
- Intro Classes: Students must wear Black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers, ballet skirts are acceptable (but not required).
- Combination Classes: Students must wear a solid color leotard, pink transition tights, pink ballet shoes, black buckle tap shoes, jazz shoes are optional. Dance pants, dance shorts and/or ballet skirts are acceptable.
- Acrobatics: Students must be in bare feet to prevent slipping while tumbling, leotards are recommended, dance shorts and dance pants are acceptable.
- Tap, Jazz, Contemporary Lyrical: Dress code for these classes is at the discretion of the instructor.
- Boys Hip Hop: Comfortable clothing and footwear.
Attendance and Participation
In order to receive the very best education RDP has to offer, it is extremely important that students be on time and attend classes regularly. We ask that you please contact us if you know you are going to be late or are unable to attend a class. Please be aware that in order to improve and advance in your dance skills you must be willing to fully participate in each and every class.
Make Up Classes: If your student/students are unable to attend their regularly scheduled class due to illness, schedule conflict, etc. you may attend a comparable class (be sure to ask your teacher for suggestions) during the week to make up for the class/classes missed.
Parent Responsibility
Please do not leave your child at the studio any longer than 15 minutes after their scheduled
Class/classes have finished. ALL STUDENTS MUST BE PICKED UP IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING ANY CLASS THAT ENDS AFTER 7:00 PM.
Student of the Month
Each month (September through May) the RDP teachers will choose a “Student of the Month.” This student will be featured in the monthly newsletter as well as in the 2010-2011 yearbooks. Remember each month the RDP teachers will be watching for students who display the following special qualities of a role model:
- Always being on time and prepared for class
- Always giving 100% effort during each and every class
- Always being kind, considerate and respectful towards teachers and other students
- Always willing to help and support fellow students
Please note: We do realize we are blessed to have many students who may exemplify these qualities, but unfortunately we will only be able to choose 1 student per month.
